MCKENSIE'S BAR AND GRILL

June 13, 2004

Reminiscent of Billygan's, McKensie's has a floor full of discarded peanut shells.  So, if you are one of the unlucky few who sports a peanut allergy, I'd suggest you stay away from McKensie's.  However, if munching on a few free peanuts appeals to you, you'll find McKensie's to be a welcome addition to the Happy Hour Tribe's meeting places.  As you enter the tavern, you see a few booths lining the perimeter, each surrounded by a western motif, and named instead of numbered.  A number of big screen tvs line the walls, and a large long bar is situated in the back of the space.  There is gambling in a small room off to the right, along with a few pool tables.  Since McKensie's is operated by the same folks who own JB O'Brien's, expect to find a humongous Bar Plate appetizer on the menu.  For appetizers, McKensie's proudly offers at least twenty different types, with nobody's taste buds being ignored.  Tap offerings include beers from Deschutes, Fat Tire, Bridgeport, Widmer, and the usual suspects.  Of course, the ubiquitous Bud Lite, etc, adorns a few taps.  God forbid a tavern not have one of the king of beers on tap.  McKensie's is situated in Sherwood, so it is a bit out of the way.  Verdict:  Great tavern food, excellent selection of beers and appetizers, plenty of room for a Happy Hour meeting.
